World Rallying’s Most Successful Association
Citroën and Michelin share a long industrial and sporting history and, together, the two firms have clinched five titles in both the FIA World Rally Championship and FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies.
For more than 40 years, Citroën and Michelin have enjoyed close ties within the automotive world.
Indeed, it was as manufacturing partners that the two brands jointly celebrated their first WRC podium finish in the 1973 TAP Rallye de Portugal, courtesy of Francisco Romãozinho’s Michelin XAS tyre-shod Citroën DS21.
At the end of the 1980s, the two companies teamed up once more in cross-country rallying, tallying four victories in the Dakar Rally and five Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ crowns in the world cup with the ZX Rallye-Raid.
Returning to rallying a decade later – initially in the domestic French Rally Championship and subsequently the FIA World Rally Championship – Citroën and Michelin have since gone on to claim 50 WRC victories and five Manufacturers’ world championship titles with the Xsara Kit-Car, Xsara WRC and DS3 WRC.
Today, Citroën is the manufacturer with whom Michelin has achieved the greatest success in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).
