Constant tread height and shape across the surface of the tyre gives consistent grip at all lean angles and surfaces.

My problem with these tires is that i'm getting paranoid if i can't change them for exactly the same ones, we've ride 5k kms in every condition you can imagine, they're safe, robust and super puncture resistant, i bought them second hand, not even know how many total kms they have. Gods of travelers grant that I can buy new ones in Cusco, for my happiness.

I've got a couple weeks of fall commuting and a 200 mile tour on paved/unpaved trails in literally every condition imaginable on these now. First off, they are TALL.. I haven't measured but I'd wager to say the 35's measure as tall as a 38 or 40. So beware if you have limited clearance. This is no surprise; the tread is mega-deep on these things. As you can imagine, there is weight associated with all that tread, and it's certainly noticeable coming straight from 35 semi-slicks. All that said, they roll pretty well. They're silent. Not squirmy at the low end of the PSI range under a 45lb loaded bike and 200lb man. The sidewalls must be pretty robust; I've been surprised how stiff they "feel" (the 'ole two-finger pinch test) at low PSI. Traction is good on wet surfaces, decent in fresh snow (I've ridden them in up to 6" so far, was surprised how well they propelled and tracked in untouched powder), but beware in rutted/freeze cycled snow and ice; there's hardly any lug spacing on the shoulders, so they won't claw their way out of ruts. They aren't magic on black ice, but I'm convinced they kept me upright in multiple situations that a semi-slick or mtb tread wouldn't have. So all that said, then factor in the price point on these, they get my endorsement without any doubt.

Work well for their intended purpose, run tall

I have been riding with these tyres for the last few months. They seem to have more grip on ice, earth and the limited snow I have ridden on. I mainly bought them for black ice as my route to work is particularly prone. They do seem to have more grip than normal tyres and work similarly to car snow tyres which have lots of edges to find grip on snow and ice. Whilst they have much more grip on ice than a normal tyre, that is still not a huge amount. I will swap back to my normal tyres sometime in March. Things to look out for though are. 1. They may not go under your mudguards as they are quite tall and square. 2. Rolling resistance is a bit higher. 3. When leaning in to a fast turn they feel a bit squirmy. Though you do get used to this. It not lack of grip. Just the flatish top of the tyre and the more flexible tread. Overall rather a good tyres for the winter months in Northern England. I also have studded tyres but you need much more consistent snow or ice to use them.

Grippy tyres.

This is the best tire around for Gravel Grinding or for whatever surface you decide to ride on. This tire will last thousands of miles, even on pavement, while keeping it's tread. I have rolled over thorns and many other obstacles w/o a problem. I have logged approximately 3,000 miles on a rear tire and more on a front, through multiple types of surfaces--pavement, gravel, dirt, sand, grass, snow, ice, etc. and the traction is incredible. When new, these tires (35's or 40's) resemble a razorback. They may be a bit on the heavy side, but they are relentless when it comes to durability and traction. I am a HUGE fan of these tires and pray they Michelin continues to make these tires forever. I wish more people would discover these tires at the local Gravel Grinds! Thanks Michelin for the best multipurpose tire on the market!
