RECYCLING
Introducing an innovative process for reusing polystyrene waste and creating more sustainable Michelin products, developed by our partners at Pyrowave.
The process uses microwaves to break down discarded yogurt cups, food containers, and other plastic packaging to recover their original building block: styrene.
This recovered styrene is then used to make new packaging and products for the automotive, home appliance and tyre industries. For example, styrene is a key component in the synthetic rubbers used to make tyres.
With this technology, the equivalent of 80,000 tons* of polystyrene waste could be recycled into MICHELIN® tyres each year.
