Road5 - The dangerous tyre
I've been riding on the Road 5 for a month (daily rider) and completed around 2000km in all types of weather. I was looking forward to the changes sand improvements from the PR4. The 'Squirm' that occasionally can be found in the PR4 was something I was looking for. The ride and grip in the dry, once the tyre is warm, is excellent as with the wet weather grip and stability in a straight line. The Road 5 now has a slick edge filling in any grooves that caused the 'Squirm' and Michelin has now created a dangerous tyre. The slick edge will slide in the dry if it is not warm and cools off extremely fast (it is winter for me) and can catch you out if you stop for a few minutes. In the wet it is extremely easy to reach the slick edge again causing loss of grip. You don't need to slow down in the wet with this tyre - you need to change your riding style. This is not a sport touring tyre for all weather more of a dry, warm weather sport tyre for weekend warriors and the occasional track day. This would be a great tyre IF there was extra water grooves/reservoirs around the edge. Tyre cooling can be managed when you become aware of what happens.
No better tire on the market
I ride a 2014 Kawasaki Concours GTR1400. It is a 700 lb sport/tour motorcycle. My bike before that was a 2012 Concours. They eat tires like you wouldn’t believe… well … not the Road 5! The performance, handling, and durability is amazing. I promise, you won’t go wrong choosing this brand. After all, it’s your butt that’s on the line.
The best for your Beast
I like the way they feel - so perfect for my day to day ride, luckily i was able to try them in the rain as soon as i put them on - now my confidence is up in the sky
You must have one!
Great in the rain!
Fabulous tyres
Great grip, wet or dry, significantly better mileage than the competition
Great ride and feel safe
I have used michelins for a long time and ride in all weathers. Road 5's feel great and surefooted, but only getting similar milage to the previous Pilot Road 4's. I would buy again, but will check the price of a pair of 4's first. Both great tyres and I have had 8 sets of them in recent years.
Dear customer, Thank you for taking the time to review your tyre at michelin.co.uk. We're pleased to hear that you are happy with your tyre and hope that you will consider Michelin again in the future. All the best, The Michelin Team

Fouled swinging arm! (2011 BMW K1600GT)
I am a car/bike examiner for a large road safety charity and use my bike all year round. Having fitted several sets of Road 5 GT tyres to my K1600GT, and really thought they were a great choice, to my surprise when removing the real wheel to fit a new Road 5 yesterday I found the latest rear tyre had fouled/rubbed the swinging arm. This resulted in the tyre having a small melted/abrasion mark on the near-side edge and also the swinging arm paint wearing away -leaving a small ‘polished’ area where the tyre had been rubbing. Disappointing and clearly a safety issue :-( Can Michelin provide any feedback or comment please? On that basis couldn’t recommend to a friend - despite the positive feedback for wet/dry performance etc.
THE tyre for all occasions
Have preferred these tyres from Road2s onware, have had bikes with S21s, Avon Storms, which are good tyres, but just nothing beats the PR series for all weather grip, confidence, longevity and consistency - well other than newer versions by MIchelin
Great Tires
I love the longevity and the grip that boosts your confidence.
Excellent tires for the road in all conditions
A friend suggested I should try Michelin road 5s. Trusting my mates advice I tried them and haven't looked back. Plenty of grip wet or dry! Good enough for fun track-day times. Reasonable life. We wore out two sets in Tasmania and fitted Road 5s straight on again. I'm happy with them.
